Contribution of ISKCON
ISKCON has contributed significantly to the cultural, intellectual and spiritual life of contemporary man. It is obvious that people of all ages and varying degrees of education and many educational backgrounds, professionals, scientists, students, workers, teachers and military – indeed many beliefs, races and nationalities – are attached to that. The unifying characteristics that bring such diverse individuals to Krishna consciousness are high ethical standards and a sincere desire to understand spiritual truths. To make Western loving and amusing youth get rid of their fashionable dress and make them give up their beefsteaks, women, wines, cannabis and LSD, and make them were saffron dress, shave their head, hold the danda and sing Hare Krishna, is not a mean achievement. That ISKCON has caused thousands of young Westerners to accomplish this seemingly impossible task is an eloquent testimony to the impact it has had on the life of the contemporary West. ISKCON offers modern man a refuge of refuge against the complexity of the anxiety of the present life.
