The unifying characteristics that bring such diverse individuals to Krishna consciousness are high ethical standards and a sincere desire to understand spiritual truths. To make Western loving and amusing youth get rid of their fashionable dress and make them give up their beefsteaks, women, wines, cannabis and LSD, and make them were saffron dress, shave their head, hold the danda and sing Hare Krishna, is not a mean achievement. That ISKCON has caused thousands of young Westerners to accomplish this seemingly impossible task is an eloquent testimony to the impact it has had on the life of the contemporary West.
