  • History and details of the dam

The Nizamsagar Project was built by the former Nizam government from 1923 to 1931 on the Manjira River with a storage capacity of 29.72 TMC to irrigate 2,75,000 acres with a usable yield of 58 TMC. This is the first reservoir on the Manjira River built with a reliable yield of 113.71 TMC. The Nizamsagar Dam was built by Mir Osman Ali Khan, then the 7th Nizam ruler of the state of Hyderabad. People from 40 villages made us move to build this dam. Legends like Mahatma Gandhi and Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru visited this place in the 1940s. There are excellent accommodation and boarding facilities near the dam to facilitate tourists. The Nizam Sagar project is the 2nd irrigation scheme on the Manjira river. In 1956, after reorganization of the states, the Manjira Basin was divided between the three states of Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra.
